I love the Effects tool. Here's how the first row works.
Rotate
Select the object, then click the Rotate icon. Red handles appear. Put your mouse around one of the corner handles; the mouse will turn to a circle surrounding the red handle. Drag to rotate.
Flip
Select the object, then click the Flip icon.
A dotted line shows the line over which the object will be flipped. You can leave it there, or drag it to flip over a different midline.
When you're ready, move your mouse close to a handle on the object, near the line to flip over. The mouse will change.
Then drag the object handle over the line, and the object will flip.
Set in 3D Object
Select the object, then click the In 3D Rotation Object icon. The line and shadowed image will appear.
If you just click the object itself right now, you get a 3D object. Fairly straightforward.
If however you drag that dotted line around
Then when you click on the object, the 3D object it turns into will look different.
Set in Circle
Select the object, then click the Set in Circle icon. Click Yes.
When you move your mouse over a corner, it will look like a crown.
Drag a corner around.
You'll see the results.
Just a comment about your blog. I have been reading it for quite some time, but have not commented until now. Your approach is the easiest and best method for learning about the capabilities of OpenOffice.
Thanks for your time and effort; they are paying dividends for me.
