SnagIt Pro is now giving away retail editions of SnagIt screen capture software for free. Follow these steps to download SnagIt for Free:

If you are in Linux I recomend checking out gtk-recordMyDesktop which is a free and open source screen capture application.

You can download in debian using a simple apt-get command.

Yep, there's also Camstudio as well. I've used it on Windows for free; not sure about its Linux possibilities.
