I occasionally mention, in class, that you can apply styles with the keyboard too. However, I'm a menu user by nature so I usually forget to emphasize it enough. Here are the steps for setting up styles so you can apply them with a keyboard shortcut. The procedure comes from the new Tips and Tricks blog from the folks creating the OpenOffice.org / StarOffice Help.
- Select from the main menu
- Select the Keyboard tab
- Select the shortcut key to assign from the list of shortcut keys
- Select Style from the Category list
Scroll right down to the Styles entry and click the + sign to show the style types of OOo - Select the style to assign from the Function list
- Click Ok
I also want to include two very useful comments from that blog entry:

I actually use Ctrl+Shift+Space very often in ill-formatted docs where direct formatting prevents changes of styles to get visible.

Hi,
>> where is the shortcut list there?
I'm afraid I'm not sure what you mean. You can choose Tools > Customize and click the Keyboard tab to see all currently applied shortcuts.
