Very cool feature in OpenOffice Calc spreadsheets: Edit > Paste Special, Transpose

Chris from the Boulder LUG pointed this out to me last night while I was singing the praises of Edit > Paste Special in OpenOffice.org.

Let's say you've got this data.

First

It's accurate, but you want the columns and rows in different positions. You want it flopped 90 degrees like this.

Third

Here's all you need to do.

1. Copy the original data.

2. Choose Edit > Paste Special.

3. Leave All selected and select Transpose.

Second

4. Click OK.

And there you are, with the whole thing flopped around the way you want it.

Third

Now just delete the old data, drag the pasted data over it -- whatever you want.

Comments

Hey, did you change your feed to only do excerpts instead of the full articles? I preferred it the other way. I use Google Reader to keep track of your updates.

I've moved from using paste special for that sort of transform to using the data pilot, because it will allow me to do more complicated transforms.

Do you have any recommendations on how I could script the creation of a data pilot table?

Thanks!

Why the partial feeds? I wish you would go back to full feeds.
